Amazing achievement at Cavendish Close Junior Academy

“The Harmony Trust could not be prouder” as quoted by Antony Hughes, CEO “this was quite a journey and this achievement demonstrates the determination and hard work of the staff, parents, trustees and children .”

This has been a remarkable journey for this academy which had received an ‘inadequate’ judgement in its inspection prior to conversion to The Harmony Trust in September 2017.  This week the OFSTED report from their January 2022 visit was released and saw the academy rated ‘Good’ across all areas.

Mr Hughes continues:

“The OFSTED ‘Good’ rating is testament to the courage and determination of the staff at Cavendish Close Junior Academy, as well as colleagues from across the Trust, and it is the deserved outcome for a team who have taken pride in their community and have always sought to put pupils at the heart of what they do.”

As quoted in the Ofsted opening line, ‘at Cavendish Close Junior Academy, staff ensure that the needs of the pupils always come first.’

The inspectors continue by saying that behaviour in school is orderly and calm, pupils are polite and well-mannered and pupils understand the school rules.

The report states that leaders have designed a new and ambitious curriculum around the principles of ‘aspire, collaborate and experience.’  Reading is prioritised for all pupils. Most pupils enjoy reading because they say it helps to develop their imagination and vocabulary.

The report also comments that leaders from the Trust have supported and challenged leaders to ensure that the right improvements are in place.

Principal, Michelle Tague said

‘I am delighted to lead a team of staff who are proud to work at the academy and who feel valued and supported by school leaders. Children are happy in school and most parents and carers acknowledge the changes that leaders have brought about over time.  In the words of one parent, “This has become a really good school.”  This is the judgement that the whole school community needs and deserves and is testament to the effort and dedication of children, parents and staff.”
