Greenfield Primary Academy 25th Anniversary Celebrations
Greenfield Primary Academy in Hyde Marks 25th Anniversary with Special Guests and Celebration Assembly
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the opening of the new Greenfield Primary on its current site in Hyde, with the original school first opening its doors in 1929. Pupils, staff and families have all celebrated the school’s continuing role at the heart of the Hyde community with a celebration assembly where children learned about the history of their school and heard from staff and ex- pupils about their memories and inspirational achievements.
The Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Betty Affleck attended and spoke to the children about how proud the children should be to attend such “a delightful school.” Academy Principal Zoe Neophitou added: “We are incredibly proud of what Greenfield Academy has to offer to the children and wider community. It was a very special day celebrating our school and hearing about the positive impact Greenfield has had on so many of our former pupils.”
The children have released a commemorative video to mark 25 years which can be viewed on the school website here.
Greenfield Primary School first opened on Greenfield Street, however, due to the building no longer being fit for purpose, the original site was demolished, and the school was rebuilt on the site of Slack Mills in 1999. Pupils at the time had a key role in overseeing the construction of the building and marked the occasion with a special opening ceremony attended by Tom Pendry MP and Cllr Jim Fitzpatrick.
The school may have changed its name to Greenfield Primary Academy in 2020 when it moved under the leadership of The Harmony Trust, but everyone at Greenfield and in Harmony have remained committed to providing the best possible opportunities and outcomes for the children in Hyde. Achievement at Greenfield is high compared to schools nationally.
